The News Minute | July 12, 2014 | 3.34 pm ISTMobiles phones in Karnataka apparently harass girls. This is effectively what Puttur MLA Shankuntala Shetty told The Times of India. Shetty is the head of a House committee that prepared a report on the safety of women and has now recommended that the state government ban mobile phones in schools and colleges to prevent the harassment of girls. She told TOI: “We’ve recommended a ban on the use of mobile phones by both girls and boys, though they have many positives. During our interactions, we came across many instances where adolescent girls faced harassment due to phones. When they return missed calls, they get into trouble. They shouldn’t be allowed to use mobiles till they become majors and attain maturity.”Shetty said that during the course of her interactions with people, she said that mobiles had been used to lure girls to remote places where they were raped.
