BJP seeks Home Minister's intervention in Legislative Council nominations

The News Minute | June 18, 2014 | 2.19 pm ISTThe Karnataka BJP president has written to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, requesting the latter’s intervention to “stall” the nominations to the state Legislative Council.Karnataka’s BJP unit has alleged that the Congress was nominating five Congress leaders who had lost the elections, to the Legislative Council. The BJP said that these nominations were “disregarding the constitutional mandatory provision” to nominate people from the field of arts, science, literature and eminent civilians who have contributed to the well being of the society.Prahlad Joshi has asked Singh to “advise the Hon'ble Governor of Karnataka to reject the recommendations sent by the state government if the list contains names of active politicians”.
