BJP leader says CM would understand if his daughter was raped

The News Minute | November 7, 2014 | 1.19 pm ISTIf the chief minister’s daughter and Home Minister’s daughter gets raped, they will understand (the gravity of the situation), Former Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader K S Eshwarappa said on Friday.Addressing the media in Bangalore, Eshwarappa took the government to task over the rise in the reported crimes against women and children in the state. He said that it was as if rapists had has a license to commit crimes in the state.“When a rape is committed, people get angry. Maybe if Chief Minister’s daughter or the Home Minister’s daughter is raped, they will be more alert," Eshwarappa said on Friday afternoon.State BJP president Prahlad Joshi distanced the party from Eshwarappa’s remarks, saying that irrespective of how angry Eshwarappa was over the rise in the crimes against women and children, this was not the way to talk.“Whether it is Chief Minister’s daughter, Home Minister’s daughter, or any other woman, they are all our sisters, mothers. Such a thing should not happen to anyone.”He said that the party “opposed” the statement and added that the party would communicate to him that it was inappropriate.
