There are several versions of the circumstances leading up to her death, including rape, attempt to rape, and medical negligence.Read: Police lathicharge demonstrators after protests over minor's alleged rape and death turn unrulyHowever, based on the post-mortem report, the police have ruled out rape at this juncture and have said that they found traces of poison in her body. On Wednesday, the BJP Mahila Morcha led by Udupi-Chikmaglur MP Shobha Karandlaje, senior BJP leaders including B S Yeddyurappa and Prahlad Joshi took out a rally from their Bangalore office to the Chief Minister's official residence.Following news of the child’s death, women’s groups and also an association of the Billava community (to which the girl belongs) gave a call for protest. According to sources, the protests turned political with various political groups and political parties turning up for the protest.The child’s body was taken out in procession in Tirthahalli on Saturday amid huge crowds. Education Minister and district in-charge minister Kimmane Ratnakar’s visit did not help matters. According to sources, the minister and his associates attempted to join the procession, which was not well received by the protesters. Soon after, things turned ugly and people began pelting stones, leading to lathicharge by the police.Protests continued on Sunday and Monday, but there were no reports of violence on Tuesday. The state government ordered a CID inquiry on Tuesday. The BJP has kept up a relentless stream protests against the ruling Congress government in the state, demanding the resignation of the Home Minister over the alleged breakdown of law and order in the state, especially the reports of violence against women and children.
