Written by : TNM

Saving lives have now been made quicker in the city as the Karnataka health department in collaboration with GVK EMRI emergency services has launched 21 bike ambulances to come to the rescue of accident victims, reported the Times of India. The initiative called the ‘platinum ten minutes’ trauma care is aimed at reducing the casualties due to road accidents. Such a service is the need of the hour since major arteries in the city are often choked during the peak hours making nagivation for ambulances difficult.“We have 40 trained paramedics who are also good at riding bikes, who will be entrusted the task of attending to patients. The service will be managed by the GVK EMRI which presently runs the 108 four-wheeler ambulance service,” Deccan Herald quoted Health Minister U T Khader. The 220CC Avenger bikes will be equipped with a portable Oxygen Cylinder, Glucometer, Nebulizer, Digital BP Apparatus, Laryngoscope, Ambu bags etc at the rear end of bikes, the report said.Apart from the city, 9 bikes have been dispatched in Mysuru, Mangaluru, Kalaburagi, Belagavi, Huballi-Dharwad, Davangere, Tumakuru, Vijayapura and Shivamogga districts to cater to the locals.
