Bengaluru shocker: Woman allegedly gangraped in Cubbon park area

In a shocking case of alleged gang rape in Bengaluru, a 30-year-old was gang-raped in the heart of the city, inside the Cubbon Park area on Wednesday night.

The woman hailing from Tumkur had gone to the Cubbon Park area to get a membership with the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association.

Cubbon Park police inspector, C Balakrishna told The News Minute that the woman had come to KSLTA alone. The alleged incident took place around 9:30pm.

Sandeep Patil, DCP Central, told the media on Thursday that after the woman was done with her work in Cubbon Park, it had become too late and she could not return home. So she decided to spend the night near the park. It is then that two security personnel guarding the park saw her and allegedly raped her.

A beat police sub-inspector doing his rounds noticed the woman sitting in the park around 2 am. On being asked, she narrated the incident to him and was taken to the police station.

The Bengaluru police have detained two security guards accused of the gang rape. The duo were working with KSLTA. A case has been filed at the Cubbon Park police station and further investigations are on.
