All in a day's work: Karnataka Speaker spares the dogs, angry with minister from his own party

Written by : TNM

The News Minute | July 23, 2014 | 5.06 pm ISTTuesday was a good day at the Karnataka Assembly. Things were going smoothly.Until of course, something happened to change that.A BJP MLA stood up to ask the Health Minister U T Khader a question. He said that anti-rabies vaccinations were not available at government hospitals. The minister stood up and replied that he would look into it. For some reason, Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa appeared dissatisfied with the answer. He told the BJP MLA: Look here, this is what you can do. All the mad dogs that you find, you can bring them to the health Minister’s house.Puzzled, another BJP MLA stood up and asked the Speaker: Do you have something against the dogs, or against Khader?Shaking his head, the Speaker said: No, no, of course not. Why would I be angry with the dogs. No, I am angry with Khader. And then, things went on as smoothly as before.Disclaimer: It is unclear why the Honourable Speaker was angry with the Health Minister. The dogs, at least, can breathe easy. They’ve been spared the Speaker’s wrath.(The events narrated above did occur in the Assembly on Tuesday.)
