Two days after the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru saw the worst fog-affected day of the season, a total of 46 flight schedules were affected on Wednesday. 

This is the 13th day of the season where fog has affected flight operations. Flight operations were stalled for little more than a hour from 7:20am to 8:29am. 

Delays in the initial hours of the day led to further delay towards the later part of the day.

All the four flights that were cancelled belonged to private airline Indigo. Other than this, six flights were diverted to nearby airports of Hyderabad and Chennai.

A total of 36 flights faced delays with 23 flights set for departure and 13 flights set for landing. 

On Tuesday morning, 20 flights were delayed due to fog.

Two days earlier on Sunday morning, a total of 140 flight schedules were affected due to low visibility and 15 flights were cancelled. Even on Sunday, all the flights that stood cancelled were from Indigo. 

A total of 63 flights set for departure on Sunday were delayed and 54 that were to arrive in Bengaluru were postponed. Another eight flights were diverted - four each to Chennai and Hyderabad. 

Before this, December 30 was the second worst affected day of the season with a total of 113 flights getting affected. 

Officials at the Indian Meteorological Department on Sunday predicted that fog-induced delays in the city might recur in the coming days till the first week of February.

Fog-induced flight delays during this time of year are common in India.  

However, Bengaluru has seen more fog-induced delays in the last two months than the entire season in the previous financial year.

This year, fog started impacting flight operations from October onwards. As early as October 25, a total of nine flights were diverted and another 80 were delayed.

Fog usually sets in at the Bangalore International Airport between November 15 and February 15 in the early hours of 3am to 8:30am.
