The News Minute| June 24, 2014| 8.35 am ISTA young man, an aspiring police constable died while undergoing his physical test on Monday morning. He was participating in a 1,600-metre run for a recruitment drive. Reports suggest that he may have had a heart attack.Chandrashekar Anandappa, a B.Com final student from the Swami Vivekananda College, was one among 140 candidates who were short listed for the recruitment of constables by Bangalore Rural police. A Times of India report says that Chandrashekar, the grandson of an army man had always wanted to join the force.The 1600 metre run was the first of many endurance tests for the day. According to the rules one is expected to cover 1,600 metres in 6 minutes and 30 seconds. But, Chandrashekar collapsed after 1,200 metres. The authorities took him to St. John’s Hospital, but he was soon declared dead by the doctors.This is not the first time such a tragedy has taken place in recent times. Five candidates for the Mumbai Police recruitment drive lost their lives in the final round of the physical fitness tests on June 19. The candidates were all between 18 and 25 years of age. The fact that the tests were being conducted mid noon had came into scanner. After the incident the Mumbai Police shifted timings to a more appropriate time of the day.
