The News Minute | March 30, 2015 | 08:29 am IST Along with issuing 400 TMC ft of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu every year, Karnataka also releases several million litres of sewage water into its neighbouring state as well, states a report by Bangalore Mirror. According to the report, minor irrigation minister Shivaraj Tangadagi on Wednesday told the Legislative Council that Bengaluru uses 1,950 million litres of water each day through water resources including borewells and surface water sources. "About 80 per cent (1,482 million litres) of this is led into the sewer systems that further drain into Tamil Nadu through various river courses," the minister said. Sewage water from Karnataka enters Tamil Nadu through the Pinakini, South Pennar (Ponnaiyar), Arkavathi and Cauvery river courses. The report adds that the Karnataka government is now planning to filter the sewage water and then use it to fill parched lakes in Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts.
