The News Minute | February 11, 2015 | 5.49 pm ISTHave you looked at the social history of India, and would you like to simultaneously see what was happening elsewhere in the world?Called “The Histomap: Four thousand years of world history; Relative power of contemporary states, nations and empires”, the map gives you just that. It shows a timeline four thousand years between 2000 BC and ends at around 1450 AD showing the genesis of the major empires spanning the origins and growth of the Egyptians, Hittites, Amorites, Iranians, Indians, Huns, Chinese. The map is part of a book called Cartographies of Time: A History of the Timeline, and was made in 1931. It has been reproduced in part by the Wait But Why website. When it comes to India, there is fairly good basic detail about how the development of some social developments and how they evolved into systems. For instance, around 2000 BC, the Aryans invaded the Punjab and settled there, along with the Dravidians who were already settled there. This development took around 200 to 250 years, and from 1600 BC, the worship of god Indra was prevalent, and the state of Kosala was formed. In around 1500 BC, the Rig Veda made an appearance, and two years later, the caste system began to develop. As this is happening, one can look across to the native Indians in the Americas and the Egyptians and the Middle East to see how their empires developed. For instance, when in around 550 BC when Buddha lived, people in Greece were beginning to organized themselves into what would later be called representative democracy.
