Veteran actor Karthik plays a crucial role in Suriya’s Thaana Serntha Kootam

The shoot of Suriya’s Thaana Serntha Kootam, the remake of Akshay Kumar’s Special 26, is inching close to completion. After the dismal show of SI 3, Suriya has pinned high hopes on Thaana Serntha Kootam, which is being directed by Vignesh Shivan.

The film marks the first-time collaboration of Suriya and the young filmmaker, best known for helming Poda Podi and Naanum Rowdydhaan. After roping in veteran comedian Senthil in an important role in the film, it is believed Vignesh has now signed on Mouna Ragam fame Karthik in a pivotal role.

According to reliable sources, nearly ten days of shooting is still pending. The makers were on the lookout for an actor to play a crucial but brief role and Vignesh felt Karthik would fit the bill. Although he has been officially signed, he is yet to join the sets. It is believed he will join the team in the last schedule of the film. Having made a smashing comeback with KV Anand’s Anegan, Karthik is keen on signing more projects. The film also stars Keerthy Suresh and Ramya Krishnan in key roles and has music by Anirudh Ravichander.

Unlike his Singam avatar where he sported a handlebar moustache, Suriya will be seen in a clean-shaven look in Thaana Serntha Kootam. Tipped to be a full-length comedy entertainer, it’s after a long gap Suriya has decided to try his hands at comedy and this shift from regular action films might work in his favour. The film will be dubbed in Telugu and is most likely to have a simultaneous release.
