Piracy is one of the most serious threats that the film industry has been facing across the world. Stars have raised their voices every now and then regarding this but there is not much of a respite as most films fall prey to it.

Recently, the Malayalam star Mohanlal has posted a ‘stop piracy… fight piracy’ message on his social media account. So what forced him to come out with such a message? Well, it happened when one netizen has posted online some negative comments about Lucifer stating that he is watching the film on his laptop.

From the producers of Lucifer, Aashirvad Cinemas, came another note which stated, “Anyone who watches a movie at the theatre has the right to criticise it, but someone like this who watches a pirated version, is killing the creativity and economic value of cinema, on which thousands of people work.”

Lucifer, which is actor Prithviraj’s maiden directorial, has Mohanlal, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith, and the Bollywood star Vivek Oberoi in pivotal roles. Those in the supporting roles include Kalabhavan Shajon, Sai Kumar, Suresh Chandra Menon, Saniya Iyappan, director Fazil, Sunil Sughatha, Giju John, Nyla Usha and Baiju.

It is a political thriller, driven by the death of Kerala Chief Minister PKR and the question of who would be his successor. Mohanlal plays Stephen Nedumpally, who had a special relationship with PKR. The script, rich with biblical references, is by actor-writer Murali Gopy. Prithvi has roped in Sujith Vaassudev for cinematography and Stephen Devassy for music composition. The film is produced by produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner Aashirvad Cinemas. Lucifer was shot in various places in Kerala including Ernakulam, Idukki and Thiruvananthapuram and in Mumbai. Some important portions were also canned in Lakshadweep and Russia.
