Actor Sivakarthikeyan on Monday announced that he is turning producer for his best friend Arunraja Kamaraj’s upcoming directorial, a yet-untitled Tamil film which will be based on women’s cricket.

Known for penning hit songs such as Neruppuda and Varlaam Varlaam Vaa, Arunraja is making his directorial debut with the project. According to multiple industry sources, the film will be about the inspiring journey of a young girl’s cricketing dream and her ever-supportive father. The shooting for the film commenced on Monday in Trichy with a customary pooja which was attended by Siva.

On donning the producer’s hat, Sivakarthikeyan said in a statement: “The film industry has given me name and fame. I owe a lot to the industry. I feel it is my responsibility to help my friends realise their dreams, the same friends who have stood beside me through thick and thin, we have always shared the same dream of achievement and glory. Arunraja Kamaraj is very talented and he had shown the glimpse of promise as a director when he was a student itself. When he narrated this script to me I was able to connect as I also hail from a middle-class family. The dreams and ambitions of the protagonist is the fulcrum of the movie.”

While Kaaka Muttai fame Aishwarya plays the lead, Sathyaraj will be seen as her father. The film also stars a youngster in a crucial role and the makers have zeroed in on a young actor called Darshan.

Siva and Arunraja go a long way back as friends. They were classmates in college and hail from the same town. The film will have music by Dhibu Ninan Thomas, who also happens to be a classmate of Siva and Arunraja.

Sivakarthikeyan sought the support of his fans as he ventures into production. The film will be bankrolled under his banner Sivakarthikeyan Productions.
