‘Ranam’ producer reacts to Prithviraj’s negative comments on film

Prithviraj’s comments on his recent release Ranam being an average movie in a film-related event seems to have greatly displeased its producer Lawson Biju Thomas. Prithviraj had said in a recent event about the film: “My heart constantly asks me to try different things. Sometimes it would succeed, and sometimes it may not. I clearly know that movies like Koode would become successful, while the ones like Ranam may not. But I must try. If I don’t, then I would feel bad when I think about it 10 years later.”

To Prithiviraj’s remark, Lawson Biju retorted: “Ya, to do an experiment on this movie he should have used his money, not the producer money. The movie is average but when movie is running in theaters he shouldn’t say this to public (sic).”

Written and directed by Nirmal Sahadev, Ranam is bankrolled by Anand Payannur and Lawson Biju Thomas under the banner Yes Cinema Production and Lawson Entertainment. Apart from Prithviraj, the action entertainer stars Rahman, Isha Talwar, Ashwin Kumar, Nandhu and others. Jakes Bejoy is the music composer for this flick with Jigme Tenzing cranking the camera.

Initially, Mamta Mohandas was roped in to play the lead opposite Prithviraj in Ranam aka Detroit Crossing but the actor eventually pulled out owing to date issues. Finally, the offer was made to Isha Talwar. Isha made her acting debut with the Hindi flick Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai in 2000 and has acted in various languages including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and English. Her debut as heroine was with the 2012 Malayalam movie Thattathin Marayathu.

Prithviraj is currently busy with his debut directorial Lucifer that has Mohanlal as the main lead and Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith and others in the star cast. We hear that Prithviraj’s debut production venture 9 will be out in theatres on November 16. Directed by Jenuse Mohammed, the film is being produced by the actor’s home banner Prithviraj Productions in association with SPE Films India.
