Overseas rights of Mahesh Babu's 'Spyder' fetches whopping Rs. 23.5 crore

The much-awaited Mahesh Babu starrer Spyder, a Tamil-Telugu bilingual, is confirmed to hit the screens on September 27.

While the TN rights of the film were recently snapped by Lyca Productions for a whopping Rs. 25 crore, making it the highest buy for a Mahesh Babu film in the state, the film’s overseas rights have fetched Rs. 23.5 crore.

The industry grapevine is that the US theatrical rights of the Telugu version of the film have been bought for Rs. 15.5 crore, while the out-of-India theatrical rights for film’s Tamil version have been snapped for Rs. 8 crore.  

The film has been directed by A.R Murugadoss, and his association with the project has definitely helped the makers fetch a very high price everywhere.

In the film, Mahesh plays an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer and it is said that he performed most of the stunts sans body double, leaving everybody on the sets stunned with his commitment.

The film tipped to have been made on a budget of over Rs. 100 crore, also features Rakul Preet Singh, Bharath, RJ Balaji, Priyadarshi and SJ Suryah in important roles.

Spyder marks the first time collaboration of Murugadoss and Mahesh Babu, and the film will have a simultaneous release in Hindi as well.

Tipped to be high on action, the film’s second teaser is being planned to be released on August 9, to coincide with Mahesh Babu’s birthday. 

Reliance Entertainment is said to have bagged the Hindi rights of the film.
