Growing from child into a man: Karthi on reuniting with Mani Ratnam

Written by : TNM

Actor Karthi started his career as an assistant to Mani Ratnam, and worked on films such as Aayutha Ezhuthu and Kannathil Muthamittal, before going on to make his acting debut in the National award-winning film, Paruthiveeran.

A decade after he worked with Ratnam, he has teamed up with the veteran filmmaker in Kaatru Veliyidai, a romantic-drama set against the backdrop of exotic Kashmir, and co-starring Aditi Rao Hydari.

In a recent interview to New Indian Express, the actor described the experience of reuniting with his mentor as truly rewarding. “It’s like a child growing into a man! Mani sir takes my opinion now,” Karthi said.

In the film, Karthi plays a pilot and will be seen sporting two looks – a clean shaven avatar and the other one featuring a beard. He plays a US-returned character that falls head over heels for an Indian doctor, played by Aditi.

The next schedule of the film will take place in Ladakh, where the team plans to shoot an action sequence. Also starring RJ Balaji, Shraddha Srinath and Delhi Ganesh, the film has music by AR Rahman and cinematography by Ravi Varman.
