National Award-winning filmmaker Vetrimaaran's highly anticipated film, “Vada Chennai”, is set to go on the floors from June 22.

Featuring Dhanush and Samantha, the film is a thriller that tracks 30 years in the life of a gangster. It is set to be filmed in two parts over the course of a year.

Ace actor, Daniel Balaji, who earlier worked with Vetrimaaran and Dhanush in “Polladhavan” will play the antagonist in “Vada Chennai”. Daniel, who has built his reputation on playing the antagonist, is currently shooting for an important role in Vijay 60.

The Times Of India quoted a source close to the actor as saying, "Daniel Balaji was called in for a look test recently in Chennai, and only then, was he finalised for the role in “Vada Chennai”. His role is a very crucial one, and he will sport a completely new look this time. He is currently shooting in Hyderabad for Vijay's next film with director Bharathan and will fly down to Chennai and join the set on June 26.”

Dhanush has set aside 200 days for the project, major portions of which will be shot in the slums of Chennai.
