CNN-IBN, may soon lose the first half of its title after the 10 year agreement between Turner Broadcasting System Inc.owned CNN and Mukesh Ambani's Network 18 Media and Investments Ltd is set to expire in January 2016 and will most likely not be renewed.According to a report in Livemint, Network18’s deal with CNN allowed the Indian TV channel to pick reports from CNN’s global news coverage. The deal was signed between CNN Turner International and TV 18 company Global Broadcast News (GBN), which was then headed by journalist Rajdeep Sardesai. CNN-IBN was launched in December 2005.Quoting sources, the report also adds that Subhash Chandra’s Zee Group may be in talks for a tie up with the US broadcaster to launch an English news channel. A CNN team's visit to the Zee News facility in Noida only reconfirmed the speculation that the two news broadcasting companies are in talk.Network 18 Media was founded by Raghav Bahl in 1993 and acquired by Reliance Industries on 29 May 2014 after Mukesh Ambani bought debentures in Network18’s promoter group companies and converted them into shares, leading to Bahl’s exit.
