After 6 years, Vijay and Karthi could clash at the box office this Diwali

About six years ago, Karthi’s Siruthai and Vijay’s Kavalan, both Pongal releases, had hit the silver screens a day apart. After all these years, they may clash at the box office this Diwali. Going by reports doing the rounds in tinsel town, we hear that Karthi’s Theeran Adhigaram Ondru and Vijay’s Mersal are slotted as a Diwali release. If this turns out to be true, it could be a big box office clash of the year.

Mersal, directed by Atlee, stars Vijay in the lead role with Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Kajal Agarwal and Nithya Menen playing his lead pairs. The stars in the cast also include Sathyaraj, Vadivelu, Kovai Sarala, Santhanam, Sathyan, Rajendran and Cheenu Mohan. Bankrolled by N Ramasamy, Hema Rukmani, R Mahendran, and H Murali under the banner Thenandal Studio Limited, the film is made on a budget of around Rs. 100-120 crores. Oscar winner AR Rahman has composed music for this film with GK Vishnu cranking the camera and Ruben editing it.

Theeran Adhigaram Ondru is directed by H Vinod of Sathuranga Vettai fame. The film, touted to be a cop thriller, has Rakul Preet Singh pairing up with Karthi and the star cast includes Abhimanyu Singh, Bose Venkat, Scarlett Mellish Wilson and Matthew Varghese. Ghibran has composed music for this film with Sathyan Sooryan wielding the camera and Shivanandeeswaran taking charge at the editing table. The film is produced by SR Prakashbabu and SR Prabhu under the banner Dream Warrior Pictures on a budget of Rs. 50 crore.

Earlier, there were reports that the film would hit the marquee in September most probably for Dusshera but now the makers of Theeran Adhigaram Ondru are set on a Diwali release and are working towards this deadline.
