The News Minute | January 7, 2015 | 6.10 pm ISTActor Mammooty irked over the​ species ​of tree sapling being planted in a campaign where he was invited to plant it​ declared on Tuesday that he will not be participating in any tree campaigns hereafter.The actor known for his short temper expressed his displeasure at the inaugural function of Agro ​F​est a tree planting campaign organized by Kerala Forest Department at Ernakulam. The actor had to plant a sapling and inaugurate the fest. Since an Asoka tree sapling, which did not have enough place to grow in the compound where it was to be planted, was given to him at first, ​he refused to plant it.​​The organizers then had to search for another species of tree sapling. They gave him a Peepal tree sapling to plant, which again was one which would grow big enough that it could not be accommodated in that compound.Though ​t​he actor ​was not happy, he did inaugurate the fest by​ planting the Peepal sapling​.Later on the stage,​ in front of a huge audience, in the presence of P K Jayalakshmi, Minister for Welfare of Backward Communities and Hibi Eden, MLA, the actor strongly criticized the programme and expressed his anger over the​ kind of​ trees being planted.“Trees are to provide shade or fruits and we should consider their complete growth while planting. They gave small saplings which am not happy with” he said in the inaugural speechHe also taunted the organizers by announcing that nobody should hereafter call him to plant trees. The angry actor was also not happy with the declared objectives of the Agro fest.“They (forest department) claim that they will plant one lakh trees, I don’t know what they are going to do. If you want to plant trees please do it by yourself don’t call me hereafter. They have changed the aim of ‘M​y ​T​ree ​C​hallenge’ initiated by me” he asserted in anger.The ​M​ollywood megastar left the ​venue​ soon after his speech ​was over ​to express his dissatisfaction.
