'Over 70 percent of Punjab youth in drugs trap'

Sreekumar Menon, director general of the National Academy of Customs Excise & Narcotics (NACEN) Monday.It is our duty to protect the youth from the menace of drug addiction, Menon said while addressing participants of a three-day course on "Mid-career Interaction between the Armed Forces and Civil Services Officers on Drug Trafficking" that began here at the Haryana Institute of Public Administration (HIPA) Monday.The course has been sponsored by the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) of the Government of India.About 30 officers from the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Forest Service, Indian Revenue Service, Indian Police Service and Probationary Officers from Customs & Central Excise department are participating in this course.He asked the officers to devise special programmes for spreading awareness among the youth so that they do not fall prey to drugs.Giving data, he said the drug trade is estimated at about 200 billion dollars per year in the world.
