I&B ministry formally scraps Censor Board's cuss words list

The News Minute | March 3, 2015 | 09:12 am ISTThe Information and Broadcast ministry has formally scrapped the list of cuss words banned by Censor Board of Film Certification chief Pahlaj Nihalani earlier this year. Nihalani, in an order copy issued to to all ROs, directed them to not allow 'such words in any category of certificate'. The list had found opposition from several of the board members and was kept on hold last month. Film maker Ashoke Pandit, who is also a member of the board, had made his dissent clear regarding the list earlier. Pandit had tweeted, 'I as a Filmmaker & #CBFC board member do not endorse the list issued by the Chairperson On words not to be used in films.I ws nt consulted.'Read: Does Censor Board Chairperson endorse other bad words, asks Board memberAccording to a report by The Telegraph, ministry sources said that the list was withdrawn formally keeping in mind the "genuine concerns raised by filmmakers" at a meeting with junior I&B minister Rajyavardhan Rathore and ministry secretary Bimal Julka in Delhi on February 25. Apart from Censor Board members, film makers too had expressed their disagreement with Nihalani's list.
