The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Tuesday lashed out against YSR Congress party MP Vijay sai Reddy, alleging that he had hurt the sentiments of Telugu people by touching the feet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Demanding an apology from him, TDP MPs claimed that the YSRCP MP walked up to Modi, who attended a brief session of the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday and touched his feet while greeting him. 

TDP MPs CM Ramesh and YS Chowdary claimed that it was 'insulting' to do this at a time when the people were hurt and were demanding Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh. 

This comes after the TDP had earlier alleged that the YSRCP was hand-in-hand with the BJP, and was playing a double game in seeking SCS, for its own political benefits. 

The TDP MPs alleged that YSRCP chief Jaganmohan Reddy was trying to get the cases against him dropped, and was therefore, colluding with the Central government.

In response to the entire incident, Vijay Sai Reddy wrote a letter to the General Secretary of the Rajya Sabha.

The letter, a copy of which is with TNM, requests access to the unedited video recording of the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha on March 27, 2018, until the House was adjourned.

In the letter, Reddy states that he was seeking the footage as the TDP was levelling 'derogatory and defamatory' allegations against him and labelled it as "an attack on parliamentary practices".

Speaking to mediapersons on Tuesday, Reddy also denied the claims made by the TDP and said that he had greeted the PM, but only with folded hands. 

“The Prime Minister greeted me, reciprocating my gesture,” he told reporters.

In return, he accused the TDP of holding a meeting with Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, while simultaneously moving the no-confidence motion.
