After weeks of hot weather, rainfall with thunderstorm in several places of coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema came as a sigh of relief to citizens on Sunday.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), thunderstorm accompanied by squally and gusty winds is likely to occur at isolated places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh for the next two days.

The early morning rainfall of nearly 9.5 mm on Sunday has reportedly managed to bring down the temperature in Visakhapatnam.

"Sunday's rainfall was due to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds that hovered over the city because of high maximum temperatures in the last few days. The rains were not because of the southwest monsoon," a duty officer at Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC) told the Times of India.

It was reported that districts like West Godavari, East Godavari, Prakasam, Visakhapatnam, Kurnool, Chittoor, Kadapa and Anantapur had received a rainfall up to 3 cm.

The New Indian Express reported that some parts of the state continued to sizzle, with mercury levels above 40 degree Celsius.

Nellore and Bapatla recorded a maximum temperature of 42 degree Celsius on Sunday despite the rainfall in the state, but no heat wave was declared.

Until a few days ago, several places in Andhra were reeling under heat wave like conditions.
