The searing heat wave conditions in the two Telugu states of Andhra and Telangana have taken a heavy toll with over 100 people losing their lives in the past few days, as per a report in Deccan Herald.

Andhra Pradesh has recorded 87 deaths out of which 15 died in Prakasam district, 15 in Guntur, 13 in Nellore, 10 in East Godavari, 9 in West Godavari, 8 in Chittoor and 5 in Krishna.

However, it is not confirmed whether all the deaths were due to heat wave, the report adds.

Temperatures above 47 degree Celsius were recorded in five places in Krishna district as per a Times of India report.

On Friday, 23 out of 67 automatic weather stations in Vizianagaram recorded over 40 degrees.

Vijayawada recorded 41.6 degrees, while Nellore and Ongole sizzled at 44 degrees and 45.8 degrees respectively.

Severe heat wave conditions are expected to prevail in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions on Saturday.

The MeT department has said that the present heat wave conditions in Andhra are likely to continue till May 23.

Residents have been advised to refrain from going outdoors, especially in the afternoon when temperatures are expected to hover around 47 degrees.

While Srikakulam district registered a maximum temperature of over 40 degrees at 18 out of 70 automatic weather stations (AWS), Visakhapatnam reported similar temperature at six out of 213 AWS.

Vizianagaram collector Vivek Yadav said nine persons have died in the district so far due to heat stroke while they are taking all possible measures to prevent more deaths.
