'Injection' attacks spark fear among women in Andhra's West Godavari district

"Injection attacks" by unknown men have sent panic among women in Andhra Pradesh's West Godavari district with six more women being attacked in different villages even as police intensified its efforts to solve the mystery.

More than 15 schoolgirls and women have come under attack in different incidents over last 15 days. Four women and two schoolgirls who were attacked on Tuesday were undergoing treatment a government-run hospital in Bheemavaram, police said,

The victims complained that youths on motor bike attacked them and injected something in their bodies through what they suspect to be syringes. While some victims said one person on a bike attacked them and escaped, others put the number of attackers at three.

Doctors suspect the substance being injected could be narcotics. The blood samples of the victims have been sent to a laboratory in Hyderabad for tests. The impact of the substance of the bodies of the victims is also yet to be ascertained.

The identity of the attackers and their motive have remained a mystery for police. A suspect was picked in Mogalthur in the district but Deputy Superintendent of Police Sowmya Lata said his involvement in the attacks was yet to be confirmed.
