Honour killing: Mother kills daughter in Vijayawada for affair with neighbour

Written by : TNM Staff

In a case of honour killing, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by her mother in Vijayawada on Tuesday for having an affair with a neighbour.

Bibi Jaan had migrated from Khammam district in Telangana to Vijayawada a few months ago, along with her husband Mysore Jaan and their two daughters. They were residing at VAMBAY Colony where their younger daughter Sheik Nazma fell in love with a neighbour. The affair caused friction in the family, particularly between Bibi Jaan and Nazma.

The police, who arrested Bibi from a relative's house on Friday, claimed that she had smothered her daughter with a pillow on Tuesday night after a heated argument.

"I was right and I just acted as per my conscience. After all, the family honour is more important to us than everyone and everything," Bibi Jaan, said reportedly without a twinge of remorse, while talking to the media before being taken into police custody.
