The Nellore district administration in Andhra on Thursday sounded an alert along coastal villages in view of Cyclonic storm Nada approaching the Tamil Nadu coast.

The Hindu reported that District Collector R Mutyala Raju instructed the departments to be prepared to meet any eventuality on Friday.

The IMD on Thursday stated that Nada had weakened into a deep depression.

The MET department had earlier said that the cyclonic storm was going to weaken in the next 12 hours and was expected to cross the Tamil Nadu coast between Vedaranyam and Cuddalore.

Tamil Nadu and Puducherry received light to moderate rainfall. 

However, officials in both Tamil Nadu and southern coastal districts of Andhra, have maintained that fishermen should not venture into the sea.

There is no warning for north-coastal Andhra, and light to moderate rain is expected over the southern districts and parts of Rayalaseema on Friday. 

Meanwhile, it was reported that the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) in Visakhapatnam had put two Indian Naval Ships, Shakti and Satpurwas, ready to provide any assistance.

TNIE reported that the ships were equipped with additional divers, doctors, inflatable rubber boats, integral helicopters and relief material, including food, tent, clothes, medicines and blankets in sufficient quantities to sustain over 5,000 people.
