Chandrababu Naidu had prior info about demonetisation, alleges opposition

Written by : TNM Staff

The centre’s demonetisation exercise has become a weapon for regional parties to target each other.

In Andhra Pradesh, the party in opposition, YSR Congress has alleged that Chief Minister, Chandrababu Naidu had prior knowledge about demonetisation of high value currency and both the TDP and BJP had already converted their black money.

YSRCP MLA, Roja alleged that while Chief Minister Naidu had not spoken about demonetisation even once in last two years, he mentioned it in October this year.

Addressing the media, she said, “Venkaiah Naidu has leaked the information to you, and because you are publicity hungry, you wanted to take credit and project as if you were responsible for this decision.”

On October 12, Naidu spoke to media on the need for abolishing 500 and 1000 notes and going online with transactions to curb black money.

YSRCP MLA Kakani Govardhan Reddy, on Monday, had demanded that the TDP government should make clear the steps it had taken to safeguard interests of farmers during Rabi season.

“The transactions in agriculture sector are mostly carried out in cash. Demonetisation has brought the flow currency down drastically and farmers are facing serious problems,” he said.

Though many politicians have opposed demonetisation, Naidu welcomed  it wholeheartedly saying, “I welcome the Narendra Modi government’s historic decision to ban Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes. This is a bold step towards eliminating corruption.”
