Andhra policeman guarding red sanders warehouse in Chittoor shoots himself, dies

Written by : TNM

A police constable shot himself dead in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor district early Friday, police said.

The constable was deployed at a red sander warehouse at Renigunta in Chittoor district.

Other policemen present there rushed him to Ruia Hospital in Tirupati but he died on the way.

Santosh Kumar of the 9th battalion of Andhra Pradesh Special Police hailed from Palasa in Srikakulam district of north coastal Andhra.

The constable was on a night duty at the warehouse, where red sander seized from smugglers was kept.

Police were trying to ascertain the reasons behind the constable's extreme step but initial speculating suggests that Santosh could have been facing family problems.
