A police constable working as the security guard of Andhra Pradesh Marketing Minister C Adinarayana Reddy died when his gun accidentally went off on Thursday.

Chandrasekhar Reddy died when the gun which he was cleaning at his house, went off. 

The incident occurred in Kadapa district after Reddy had returned home from duty.

According to reports, the police officer did not realise that the safety switch was off and accidentally pressed the trigger.

The constable was critically injured in the misfire and died on his way to a private hospital.

The Taluk police station under the Kadapa Urban circle registered a case under section 174 (unnatural death) of the CrPC. 

The Minister and district SP Attada Babuji met and consoled the distraught family, who were looking forward to spending Dusshera with the police constable, ToI reported.

He is survived by a wife, and two sons.

Assuring the family of any assistance that was required, the SP also said that the matter would be investigated.

The Hindu reported that Chandrasekhar Reddy had been working as Adinarayana Reddy’s gunman for the last three years, and was a native of Ambavaram in Vallur mandal of Kamalapuram constituency.

This is not the first case of a misfire reported from Andhra Pradesh this month.

Earlier this month, the driver of an Assistant Superintendent of Police in Andhra was killed after a gun accidentally misfired.

ASP Sharat Babu’s personal gunman Nagendra, who was carrying an AK-47, was sitting next to the driver, when the gun allegedly misfired.  The bullets pierced into the driver’s chest. He was then rushed to a nearby hospital.

Due to excessive bleeding, he slipped into coma, and succumbed to his injuries.
