In a gruesome incident, a man who suspected his wife of infidelity, hacked her to death and later committed suicide in Srungaravarapukota, Vizianagaram on Friday.

The incident came to light on Saturday.

The assailant was identified as Chebrolu Srinivasa Rao.

Police said that Rao and his wife K Uma Devi had a fight nearly three months ago, when Rao had suspected her of infidelity.

Following this, she filed a case against him at the local police station.

However, Rao, who is unemployed, continued doubting her.

“On Friday evening at around 5 pm, when Uma was returning from school, he stopped her near an isolated field in Kothakota, and attacked her brutally with a machete. Uma collapsed immediately and died. Later, Rao committed suicide by consuming pesticide close to the murder spot,” said Srungaravarapukota Circle Inspector, S Lakshmana Murthy.

Uma was working as a part-time crafts teacher at the local Zilla Parishad High School in Kottam, a nearby village, he added.

Rao had also been harassing Uma for dowry, following which they split and started living separately, as per reports.

Local reports said that Rao and Uma were married for 13 years and had two children.

Police informed that the children are now being taken care of, by Uma’s parents.
