On Women's day, March 8, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay has asked the women of Tamil Nadu to take an oath and vote out of power the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections in protest against not ensuring women’s safety. Addressing the state through a video statement, he accused the DMK of having cheated the people who elected them to power in 2021.
The actor-turned-politician said that women do not feel safe and protected and that they are constantly “insecure”.
“All of us joined hands and elected the DMK government to power. But we realise only now that they have cheated us… In 2026, all of you, no, all of us, will unite and defeat those who have failed to ensure women's safety. For that, let's take an oath on this Women's day,” he said.
Earlier, on February 26, TVK’s first anniversary event was held at Mahaballipuram in Chennai. At the event, Vijay announced that members of TVK will contest in all 234 Assembly seats in 2026 and that the party is hoping to win the elections.
“We are an emerging, primary political force in Tamil Nadu politics with a firm commitment towards creating history in the upcoming Assembly elections in 2026. It will be like the 1967 and 1977 Assembly elections in our state without compromising our party’s ideologies,” Vijay said, referring to the DMK and the AIADMK’s first election victories respectively. He declared the DMK as his party’s “political enemy” and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as the “ideological enemy.”
Additionally, political analyst and strategist Prashant Kishor also officially announced that he would work for TVK in the 2026 state Assembly elections, putting an end to speculations.
