

1. TN police suggested in its report to the home secretary that at least half of the 6,000 Tasmac shops existing in the state could be shut down, and instead more Elite stores could be opened. The report was made following public anger at proliferation of Tasmac shops and the crowds that gather at these places, reported A Selvaraj of The Times of India.
2. Prithika Yashini lost out on her dream to become Tamil Nadu’s first transwoman sub-inspector after she failed her qualifying 100 metre lap in Chennai. Despite making it through the 400 metre, long jump and throwball, she missed out after knee trouble during a previous injury, reported The New Indian Express.
3. After failure to follow the court’s instructions, a contempt application has been filed against the TN state highways secretary in connection to the removal of Sivaji Ganesan’s statue in Kamaraj Salai. In January, the court had ordered officials to take a call on the decision to remove the statue.
4. Bitterness has entered the scene after APJ Abdul Kalam’s office in New Delhi made a statement claiming that Srijan Pal Singh, who spent his last few hours with Kalam, should not give official statements regarding the same to the media. He has been asked to deactivate social media accounts, reported The Times of India. Singh had earlier written "Last Eight Hours with Kalam" which went viral.
5. Tasmac agitations continue: According to reports, liquor sale has had a Rs 12 crore loss in the last week. One Tasmac employee died allegedly of suffocation after a petrol bomb was thrown. Also, differently-abled activists continue their fast unto death calling for prohibition in the state, a day after they were detained in a community hall which had been poorly facilitated to cater to the needs of the activists.
