
A first year paramedical student in Coimbatore died by suicide on Tuesday, April 15, after she was allegedly accused of stealing money from a fellow student.
The 18-year-old, identified as Anupriya, native of Tiruvannamalai, was studying in Hindustan College of Health and Science, Coimbatore district.
According to the police, there was a training session conducted for both first and third year students in the hospital premises on Tuesday. When the students returned after the lunch break, a student complained of Rs 1,500 cash missing from her bag and immediately reported the matter to the faculty. The college administration which carried out a probe allegedly suspected Anupriya and summoned her in the presence of fellow students, police told TNM.
The Peelamedu police were informed about the death on Tuesday following which Anupriya’s mortal remains were sent to Coimbatore Government Hospital for a postmortem.
A case has been registered and investigation is underway.
