A 15-year-old girl was brutally attacked by her 17-year-old relative in Tharagampatti town of Karur district on the night of Sunday, February 23. The accused, a minor, allegedly slit the girl’s throat following a verbal altercation.
According to police reports, at around 8 pm the accused had contacted the victim via Instagram, asking her to meet him outside her house. When the two met, a heated argument ensued, during which the girl allegedly made derogatory remarks that provoked the accused. Enraged, he reportedly attacked her with a knife, slitting her throat before fleeing the scene. He also snatched her gold chain, weighing one sovereign, before escaping, the police said in a statement.
The accused was apprehended shortly after the incident. Meanwhile, the victim was rushed to a private hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
The police also dismissed reports circulating on some media platforms that suggested the attack involved sexual assault. They have urged media outlets to refrain from spreading misinformation.
