Vijay slams BJP-DMK dispute over three-language policy, calls it a 'kindergarten fight'

Actor Vijay’s political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), on Wednesday, February 26, has sharply criticised the ongoing tussle between the Tamil Nadu government and the Narendra Modi-led Union Government over the three-language policy. In a scathing remark, the actor-turned politician likened the conflict to a petty squabble between kindergarten students, with neither side addressing the larger, pressing issues at hand.

Speaking at TVK’s first anniversary celebrations on Wednesday, Vijay expressed frustration over the situation, stating that the Union Government had stopped allocating funds to the state for education. He argued that the dispute was trivial compared to the real challenges the state faces. "This is like an LKG - UKG students' fight. The Centre's responsibility is to provide, and the state's responsibility is to receive—it’s our right," Vijay asserted, calling out the inconsequential political squabbling over hashtags while major issues were being ignored.

The anniversary event saw a significant presence of political figures, including Prashant Kishor, the chief of Jan Suraj and an advisor to Vijay. Kishor, who is believed to be working closely with Vijay in his efforts to challenge the dominance of the two major Dravidian parties in the upcoming state elections, attended the celebration as a key guest.

During the TVK’s first ever state-level conference held in October 2024, Vijay had taken a swipe at the DMK saying, “They go on about ‘fascism, fascism, fascism’ and what are they [DMK]? Payasam?”. He was implying at the time that there is little difference between the DMK and BJP. The TVK president had also declared the DMK and the BJP are his party’s “political enemy” and “ideological enemy”, respectively.
