Three teachers from a government school in Bargur of Krishnagiri district have been arrested and suspended from duty, following allegations of rape made by a 13-year-old student. The incident came to light on February 3 when school staff visited the 13-year-old student's home to inquire about her prolonged absence. The student subsequently disclosed the alleged assault, which reportedly occurred in early January at the school premises.

District Collector Dhinesh Kumar said the student is currently receiving professional psychological counseling and support.

Based on complaints filed by the school headmistress and block education officer, police arrested three teachers, aged 37, 48, and 57. They have been booked under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along with sections 329(3) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) for criminal trespass and intimidation, respectively.

The incident has drawn sharp criticism from opposition leaders. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami questioned student safety in government educational institutions and urged Chief Minister MK Stalin to address the issue. BJP Tamil Nadu state president K Annamalai expressed concern over what he described as rising incidents of such nature in the state.
