
The Tamil Nadu police arrested 70 people for cyber fraud from across the state between December 6 and December 8 under operation Thiraineeku. According to an official release, the arrested persons were involved in135 crimes and efforts are underway to recover the defrauded funds.
The police operation, claimed to be one of the largest of its kind in India, was conducted using the database of the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), the Pratibimb portal of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (established under the Ministry of Home Affairs), and through the financial data analysis of bank fund trails linked to these cyber crime networks. According to the official release, the NCRP database had complaints amounting to a total fraud of Rs 41.9 crore.
The Tamil Nadu police are further trying to trace other members belonging to these cyber crime networks to recover the defrauded funds.
The operation was supervised by the Additional Director General of Police (cyber crime) Sandeep Mittal, based on the directions of Director General of Police Shankar Jiwal, the release said.
