Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced that MPs from the state – who participated in the meeting against delimitation – will soon meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking in the Assembly on March 24 during Zero Hour, Stalin reiterated that Tamil Nadu has taken the lead in opposing delimitation and is the first state to have passed a resolution against the Union government’s proposal.
“Tamil Nadu has taken the lead in creating awareness against delimitation, making a national-level impact. We must now take the slogan ‘Tamil Nadu will fight, Tamil Nadu will win’ to the next step. MPs from Tamil Nadu will soon meet with PM Modi to ensure our rights, the rights of other states like Tamil Nadu, and fair delimitation,” Stalin said.
The Chief Minister also acknowledged the support of various political parties in Tamil Nadu, including the opposition AIADMK, for their participation in the state government's all-party meeting against delimitation. He extended his gratitude to political parties that attended the Joint Action Committee (JAC) meeting held on March 22, where a resolution was passed demanding a 25-year freeze on delimitation. The resolution also called for a constitutional amendment to ensure this measure.
The JAC meet, hosted in Chennai, was attended by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader KT Rama Rao were also present, while former Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik joined via video call.
Earlier on March 5, leaders across political parties in Tamil Nadu, attended the state government's all-party meeting in a show of solidarity against delimitation. The meeting had been attended by senior leaders from the All Indian Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) and other state parties, apart from the DMK’s allies including the Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and Left parties.
In the Assembly, Stalin also said, “The states that have successfully brought population under control should not be punished. The states that participated in the JAC meet must take steps against delimitation in their own state Assemblies as well. This resolution that aims to protect alliance politics and democratic rights, is a historic one.”
