A 25-year-old man belonging to the Vanniyar caste (categorised as Backward Caste) was hacked to death by his girlfriend’s brother. E Vijayakumar was found dead on Monday, December 2, in Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu. His girlfriend belongs to the Nadar community (also categorised as Backward Caste) and her brother was a friend of Vijayakumar.
A murder case has been registered at the Palayamkottai police station and the deceased’s body has been sent for an autopsy.
Vijayakumar, who hailed from Kallakurichi, was called into Tirunelveli city by his girlfriend Saroja’s brother Pushparaj on Monday. Pushparaj was reportedly accompanied by his friend Paramasivam, who belongs to the Konar community (classified as Other Backward Caste). The duo together allegedly murdered Vijayakumar.
A case has been registered with the Palayamkottai police under sections 101 (murder) and 103 (punishment for murder).
