After receiving only 70 applicants for its 560 flats that were built under the Foreshore Estate redevelopment scheme, the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) has decided to involve a private builder for a joint venture.As a part of this redevelopment plan TNHB demolished approximately a thousand dilapidated houses in 2010.The joint venture came about with a new plan in mind. According to this new plan, the housing board and the private builder will construct more than 1,500 flats. Allotment of the houses will see government servants (who lived in the razed homes.) being given importance, reported Times of India. In Koyambedu, the housing board has received an overwhelmingly good response for its 136 high income group (HIG) flats. There are four main types of flats that will come up in the 17-storied building at the 1.3 acre space - 1327 sqft. flats at 1.26 crore, 1338 sqft flats at 1.27 crore, 1366 sqft flats at 1.30 crore and 909 sq ft flats at 86.65 lakh. The flats were offered at 9,499 per square feet.  TNHB received 350 applicants for the 400 houses. Another 130-odd houses will come up under the government rental scheme, an official told according to the report.The housing board is also focused on building governmental rental quarters that will be used as transit housing.
