Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president MK Stalin on Sunday, October 25, urged party cadres to prepare to bring down the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government, questioning whether the administration headed by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay would last even six months.

Speaking at former DMK minister KKSSR Ramachandran’s family wedding function in Chennai, Stalin accused the TVK government of administrative failures, rising prices, power cuts and an increase in crimes, including sexual offences against women, murders, and child kidnappings.

“I had said this government would last only for six months. Now, the situation has reached a point where we have to ask whether this government will even last for six months,” Stalin said, calling on DMK cadres to work towards ending the government’s tenure.

Stalin alleged that news reports of crimes and administrative lapses had become a daily occurrence under the TVK regime. He also questioned the functioning of the Singappen Special Force. “The government formed a special force called the Singappen Special Force. Now, a situation has arisen in which another force has to be formed to protect the Singappen Special Force,” he said.

Recalling Vijay’s 2026 Assembly election campaign, during which he projected the political contest between the TVK and the DMK, Stalin said he had earlier described the contest as one between power cuts and sickle attacks. “Today, that has changed, and the competition is between sexual violence and the prevalence of drugs,” he said.

Responding to Vijay’s political rhetoric that DMK was an evil force, Stalin said people had understood who the real “evil force” was. “When I assumed office, I said my government would function in a manner that even those who had not voted for us would regret not having done so. But today, people who voted for the government and those who did not are all lamenting,” he said.

DMK leader Dindigul I Leoni also took a swipe at the TVK government to argue that welfare schemes introduced by the previous DMK government continued to benefit people.

Leoni referred to schemes such as the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai (KMUT) monthly assistance scheme for women, the breakfast scheme for school children and Metro Rail projects, continuing to benefit people which were introduced by the previous government.
