A migrant worker died of electrocution outside a private bank’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM), on Saturday, November 30, at Muthialpet, near Parrys in Chennai. The Muthialpet police have registered a case and the mortal remains of the man has been recovered and sent to a government hospital for an autopsy.

Chandan, the migrant worker, had left home on Saturday to withdraw cash from the ATM. Due to heavy rains caused by cyclone Fengal, the road outside the ATM was inundated. Chandan, while trying to enter the ATM, had reportedly slipped. To balance himself, he held onto an electrical pole. He reportedly died after he came in contact with a live wire, initial reports said.

Locals rescued his body from the water and called the police.

Chandan, a native of Odisha, was working at a private showroom in Parrys and was residing at a stay allotted to workers. The Muthialpet police are investigating the matter.
