Who authorised Apollo to cease treatment on Jayalalithaa? OPS camp asks President to probe
The doubts on J Jayalalithaa's death seem to be never-ending.
Adding a new twist too the tale, AIADMK MP V Maitreyan belonging to the former Tamil Nadu CM O Panneerselvam camp demanded a probe on the death of former TN CM and party supremo J Jayalalithaa in his Tuesday meeting with President Pranab Mukherjee.
The senior leader told the President that there were “huge doubts” over the death.
“When Jayalalithaa was admitted, it was told that she had fever and no major health problem. But then she was there for 75 days,” Maitreyan told reporters after his meeting with the president.
"Our beloved Amma passed away on December 5, many in the state, especially women have doubts over her death. It was well known that Amma had a mini hospital inside her Poes Garden house. It surprised us that she was rushed to hospital for fever in spite of having such a big set up at home," Maithreyan said.
He questioned why no one was allowed to meet her. "She did not have any disease that disallowed her from meeting anyone. We have asked the President to investigate what treatment she received and what happened in her residence on September 22," he said.
Apollo hospital has informed the court that they decided to cease treatment when they were unable to revive her. Maithreyan asked who gave the authorisation to cease treatment.
“We demand a thorough probe into the matter. We think the present Tamil Nadu government will not accept our demand. Hence, we approached the President and submitted a memorandum,” he added.
Jayalalithaa was admitted to the Apollo Hospital in Chennai on September 22, and died on December 5 after she was treated for 75 days in hospital.
Tamil Nadu witnessed a huge political churn a few days ago when O Panneerselvam rebelled against Sasikala. One of the first demands that O Panneerselvam had put forward was an investigation into Jayalalithaa's battle.
Though OPS had promised to initiate an inquiry headed by a Judge, he lost the battle to reclaim the post of TN CM to Edappadi K Palaniswami, who won the trust vote in the TN assembly on February 19.
EPS was elected as the leader of the AIADMK Legislature Party at the behest of party General Secretary VK Sasikala hours after the Supreme Court re-instated a lower court verdict in the DA case.
Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly and DMK’s Working President MK Stalin criticised OPS for on Sunday and called him selfish. Stalin said that OPS had raised issues about Jayalalithaa's death only after he was made to resign as CM.
