Film producer and AGS Entertainment CEO Archana Kalpathi Aghoram has been appointed as a member of the reconstituted state-level committee of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department, which is tasked with selecting non-hereditary trustees for temples with an annual income of more than Rs 10 lakh.
Archana Kalpathi was the producer of Chief Minister Vijay-starrer films Bigil (2019) and The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) (2024), both produced under AGS Entertainment.
The seven-member committee has been constituted for a two-year term with effect from July 24, 2026. The panel will shortlist eligible applicants and prepare a list of names for the appointment of non-hereditary trustees to temples administered by the HR&CE Department.
The committee is headed by Thavathiru Sivagnana Balaya Swamigal of Bommapuram Adheenam, Mayilam, while retired District and Sessions Judge Dr K Ramanathan has been appointed as deputy chairman.
Archana Kalpathi is one of the five members of the committee. The other members are retired IAS officer P R Sampath, Ma Sumathi alias Sumathisri and Dr Tha Velmurugan. The HR&CE Commissioner will serve as the ex-officio member and secretary.
The committee was constituted after the tenure of the previous panel expired. The reconstituted committee will function for two years from July 24, 2026, as part of the state's process of appointing non-hereditary trustees to temples under the HR&CE Department.
The appointment comes amid a series of government positions being given to individuals associated with the Tamil film industry following Vijay's entry into politics.
Earlier, K Venkata Narayana, producer of Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan, was appointed as Special Representative of the Tamil Nadu government in New Delhi. The appointment had drawn criticism from political circles, with the post being described as a sensitive position in the national capital.
Vijay’s astrologer Rickey Radhan Pandit Vettrivel's appointment as Officer on Special Duty to the Chief Minister (Political) was withdrawn following opposition from political parties. Jagadish Palanisamy, described as a long-time manager and close aide of Vijay, was subsequently appointed Private Secretary to the Chief Minister (Political).
Cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa was also appointed Chairman/President of the MGR Government Film and Television Training Institute in Taramani. His credits include Nanban, Beast and Leo, all of which featured Vijay.
