The News Minute | July 13, 2014 | 06:07 pm ISTOn Friday, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association denied entry to a sitting judge of the Madras High Court as he was wearing a dhoti.Though Justice Hariparanthaman had gone to the club on invitation to attend an event, he was not allowed to enter as the club rules permit only those who wear pants to enter.The issue has snowballed into a huge controversy with political parties demanding the government intervene.The DMK and Congress have condemned the incident and want rules of clubs to be changed. The CPI-M too has announced plans to take the issue up in the ongoing session of the Tamil Nadu assembly.Many clubs in Chennai and other cities have strict dress codes. Though there have been protests raised by different quarters, clubs have maintained that it was their decision to retain the rules.
