DMK adopts resolution condemning Amit Shah's remarks on Ambedkar

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) passed a resolution, on Sunday, December 22, condemning Union Home Minister Amit Shah's recent remarks about Dr BR Ambedkar. The resolution was adopted during the party's executive committee meeting held at its headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, in Chennai.

DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin presided over the meeting. Stalin, also saw the party vehemently oppose the proposed 'One Nation, One Election' Bill. Furthermore, a resolution was passed against the proposed tungsten mining project in the Madurai district.

The DMK has set an ambitious target of winning 200 out of the 234 Assembly seats in the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. As part of its strategy, the party has instructed its members to intensify their efforts in promoting the welfare schemes implemented under Chief Minister Stalin's leadership. The party has deployed full-time representatives for each Assembly constituency who will report directly to an election cell at the party's state headquarters. These representatives will engage the public and highlight the transformative impact of the state government's welfare schemes at the grassroots level. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin leads this election cell and the party's youth wing. Senior leaders, including Organising Secretary RS Bharathi and ministers Thangam Thenarasu, EV Velu and KN Nehru are also election cell members.

Currently, the DMK holds 133 seats in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, along with its allies: the Congress (18), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) (4), CPI (2), and CPI(M) (2), totaling 159 seats. The DMK-led alliance secured 45.38% of the vote in the previous elections.
