Developments in political alignments in Tamil Nadu are quickening by the day ahead of the assembly election. And it now seems that the BJP camp is not as averse as it earlier was to an alliance with DMK and DMDK.

The Times of India reports that a bulk of the DMDK cadres and functionaries favour an alliance with the DMK, given the party's bitter relations with the ruling AIADMK. Supporters of Vijayakanth say that he too seems keen on a BJP-DMK-DMDK alliance

But the DMDK leadership, wary after a failed partnership with one Dravidian party, is said to have laid down tough preconditions which include a share in the government and post of Deputy Chief Minister. Vijayakanth has remained silent on the issue, preferring perhaps to wait till his party's Kancheepuram rally on February 20, to reveal his mind.

However, the DMK leadership is not keen on any truck with BJP, fearing that such an alliance would erode the minority support base which is integral to its vote share. A senior leader in the party called the electoral tie-up 'suicidal', according to TOI.
